One of the first churches that have been built in Goa, Church of Our Lady of Immaculate Conception is located in the heart of Goa’s capital city Panjim. It is believed that this church was built even before 1541. From the gallery of the church you can get an amazing view of the entire city. It is located on a hillside, as stands just above the Idalco Palace, which was built by Adil Shah.
This Church presents a simple and elegant architecture. The main altar of the church is dedicated to the Mary Immaculate. It had two more altars, one on each side, dedicated to Jesus crucified and Our Lady of the Rosary. Two captivating marble statues have been built on both sides of the Church. The statues are of St. Peter and St. Paul. To the right side of the main altar, you will find a chapel of St. Francis Xavier. On 8th of December every year, the feast of the Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception church is organized. A fair is organized at the Church square during the feast. The buoyancy of the fair and the decoration add on to the overall beauty of the church.
Tourists can also go for exploring the area around the Church. Secretariat Building, Jama Masjid, Hindu Mahalaxmi Temple, Municipal Garden are a few of the sightseeing places which in close vicinity of the church. You will find a wide range of many hotels and boutiques as well.
